A sculptural exploration with ceramics as the medium, focused on nerikomi — a technique that lets pattern enter the body of the clay itself and grow with the vessel
The high formal freedom of ceramics, the vast chemistry of glazes, and the uncontrollability of firing are the reasons I chose it as a sculptural medium. Compared to slip casting, slabbing, or pinching — all of which build with a single clay body — nerikomi allows different clays to meet in the kneading. Combined with dozens of self-mixed glaze tests, three variables — pattern, sculptural form, and glaze chemistry — interact in the kiln, producing forms a single material could never achieve
