Shichen Yang is an interdisciplinary designer working across environmental, speculative, and inclusive design. A graduate of the University of the Arts London (BA Hons Product and Furniture Design) and the Royal College of Art (MA Design Products), his practice spans bioremediation, critical interaction, museum interpretation, service design, and traditional craft including ceramics, glassblowing, and origami structures.

His research-led projects address contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in agricultural systems, desertification through living materials, and accessibility in rural transport. His speculative and interactive work investigates the phenomenology of everyday objects, the dynamics of information echo chambers, and inclusive play across sensory differences. His methodology combines literature review, field research, and material experimentation with technical tools such as Arduino, sensor integration, and 3D ceramic printing.

Across these fields, his work returns to a consistent concern: how design might restore attention to what has been overlooked, simplified, or set in opposition.
